GPS and Radar Seminars

June 22, 2019


This Global Positioning System (GPS) Seminar is open to all recreational boaters. It covers: Interpreting GPS Screens, How to Use GPS as a Navigation Tool, Waypoint and Route Navigation, Other Uses of GPS and GPS Installation and Maintenance. Also covered are: Man Over Board GPS Function and Distress Signaling (Mayday) when boat’s GPS is interconnected with your VHF radio. Extensive use is made of GPS screen shots and illustrations. Seminar material includes printed B&W copies of all seminar slides and a CD of seminar leader’s text on GPS and color copies of all seminar slides. Seminars are conducted by Captain Harl Porter, SN on Saturday 22 June and will cost $30. Seminars will be held at Charleston Sail and Power Squadron (America’s Boating Club, Charleston) at our Headquarters building at 1376 Orange Grove Road (in West Ashley) from 0900 to 1130. This Radar / AIS Seminar is open to all recreational boaters. It covers: Pulse Radar System Description, How to Use Radar for Collison Avoidance & Navigation, Radar Returns & Controls, Radar Interpretation & Operator Aids and Radar Installation & Maintenance. This seminar also covers Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) with emphasis on recreational boater’s receive only AIS systems. Extensive use is made of Radar/Chart Plotter screen shots and illustrations. Seminar material includes printed B&W copies of all seminar slides and a CD of seminar leader’s text on Radar & AIS and color copies of all seminar slides.
