Other Websites

  • WWW Tide and Current Predictor from the University of South Carolina
  • USCG Navigation Center
  • Live information about ships which have AIS -- you can click on "Show Ship Names" on the left menu, and can click on the type of ships you want to track. You can zoom in to see local information (as the information is an overlay on a Google Map)
    • Charleston This seems to require a multi-step process:
      1. Click on "Live Map" on top menu
      2. Click on magnifying glass on left menu
      3. Enter "Charleston SC" in second field ("Find a map location")
(You'll probably want to zoom out a bit to see the entire harbor area.)
  • First Aid for Onboard Medical Emergencies A listing of selected on-line medical resources for boaters, cruisers, and crew.
  • Animated Knots by Grog     (link added September 22, 2013)
  • FloatPlanCentral™ The 2011 Float Plan is a PDF that can be downloaded, and then you can enter information into the document, then save the PDF to your computer. Some fields are drop-down menus, although most are free-text fields. You can then send the PDF to friends and family by e-mail rather than printing it. Includes a glossary of terms.
    • There are older versions of the Float Plan elsewhere on-line. The version at FloatPlanCentral (as of March 21, 2017) is "Version 10.2, Copyright 2015"
    • There is a Float Plan Template at the USPS website, but it is outdated (copyright 2000) as it does not include a text-field for your MMSI number.
